Hiroshima’s automated buses and V2X

August 15, 2017February 25, 2023mandali

My first trip to the Hiroshima area was with my mother back in 2001 and memorable for three things: the Torii gate at Miyajima, the massive okonomiyaki omelette dinner we had in the evening and the long trek up the hill to the Hiroshima City youth hostel with a heavy backpack. It was a whirlwind […]

Tokyo: urban experimentation and the 2020 Olympics

October 12, 2017February 25, 2023mandali

A history of experimentation Since the Meiji restoration, and including Akira and Godzilla, Tokyo has always been the locus where the future fuses with the present and where one would expect the automated driving future to be well under construction. Indeed there are so many projects and experiments around vehicle automation it’s hard to keep […]

Gunma’s ecological community bus approach to mobility

June 9, 2017February 25, 2023mandali

ABOUT

Mandali is a software engineer/executive raised in London and Paris, now based in Tokyo Japan for the last 15 years. This website shares his thoughts related to automated driving and advanced safety systems, as well as other interests such as music, lifestyle, video and other projects.

Over the years I have been fortunate to work across Germany, the UK, France, China, Singapore and of course Japan, gaining a strong understanding of what it takes to be a global leader. Some highlights from my professional life include helping Toyota stand up its autonomy software company Woven Planet and growing it to 2,000+ staff, being the former Chair of non-profit ITS Japan’s Automated Driving Support Center and named one of the top tech entrepreneurs in Asia. Outside of work, I’m a from-time-to-time musician (DJing/music production/guitar-vocal) and video gamer (still discovering my new PlayStation 5).
